Brophy Lacrosse

Last night was the final tune-up for the Broncos before their trip to D.C. for the Jesuit High School Lacrosse Classic. The Broncos looked tough and so did freshman sensation Ryan "Manny" Manos. Manos was put it at goalie to replace Junior, Duke-committed goalie Pierce and notched a very impressive save, allowing only one goal.

The defending state champion Broncos will have their hands full as the tournament is "arguably the country's premier high school lacrosse tournament." The tournament features tough teams like #5 ranked Georgetown Preparatory School.

Good luck Broncos!

Jean here, again posting from Steve's computer since I am lucky enough to have him with me in Phoenix, along with his friend Dominic visiting over his spring break. In case any Brophy people are reading this blog I'm negating the Pierce - Duke comment in case the rumor spreads. A lot of impressive college's are looking at him and the commitment is a secret, if there is one. I think you're thinking of the #10 attackman who has committed to Duke. Also a stellar player. The games are fun to watch and besides the cold rainy weather I'm guessing this tournament will be exciting. I'm just hoping Pierce does not break his thumb again because Ryan is safer on the sidelines. "He's just a little guy." Mudgie

Hey Baby,

I don't think your mom has anything to worry about with Breadie playing. He can certainly handle his own. I meant to stop by today on my way to visit Moochie, but I forgot to bring your little gift, so I postponed. I am working tomorrow, but I will call your mom and see what's going on after work. If you two, or three with
Dominic, are going to be hanging out at home tomorrow night-I'll plan to stop for a short visit.

I am so glad that you are home with your Mama for a couple of days, I'm sure she is thrilled to be at home with you...and I am also sure that she will take over spoiling you in Jen's absence.

Jen, I hope you have a wonderful visit with your parents. Enjoy the time you have with them. Stop and smell the flowers-just for a couple of days. All year you go at such a quick pace, you deserve some time off....Enjoy!

Love to everyone,
Aunt Lynnie

The Broncos chose to get their one loss in tonight in a practice game before the tournament started. The game saw a few minutes of great goaltending by Ryan who had three major league saves. The tournament starts tomorrow with the Broncos facing a tough Loyola Academy squad. On Saturday Brophy hopes to upset the #5 Georgetown Preparatory school, and plays Rockhurst High School in the afternoon game. On Sunday, the game is against Gonzaga College High School (not related to the Gonzaga in WA; it is in the DC area).

I feel so lucky that I get to see Ryan everday at Brophy and witness the pride on that sweet face of his as we walks to practice surrounded by seniors. So many of the varsity squad has told me how awesome Ryan is. They truly enjoy having him on the team. Who wouldn't. He has handled Steve's situation with such grace and strength.

Steve, it was so great seeing you last night. You are looking stronger everyday. Also great to see Dominic, A.J. and Tony. Great kids!!! I won't see you for several days. I leave for Portland tommorrow. I am runnung that 15k and hope to run with just half of the determination that you have shown. I have my IPOD loaded with so many of the songs that people sent in for your treatment days. Know that every step I take on Sunday, I will be thinking of you and how much I love you.

Hi Steve,

I am so excited for Ryan and the Broncos! I can't wait to hear how it all turns out. Let us all know. How I wish that I could be there to see Ryan play. Give him my love and best wishes. How are you getting along today? I hope that you are feeling some improvement. As always, I am praying up a storm for you. May all of your tests come back negative for cancer. God bless and keep you.

Love,

Aunt Diane

Hey Steven,

I have just rented a condo on South Mission Bay that sleeps 8... So let the cardardies over the line practice begin. It's on the baywalk near the novaks.I'm hoping wacky can get some time off, who would Ted argue with? Hoping Andrew can make it too. It's always more fun with his suptle comments. It will be the last week the novaks will be there, 7-26-08 to 8-3-08. Lynn, Mary and I can't wait to cook all your favorites (and then there is Sara's to fill in). Hope this gives you something to look forward to, I know I am. Love you.

JEAN HERE: I hope my memory is accurate when I'm giving these tournament updates. Today the Broncos played 2 games. They lost to Georgetown Prep(not a shocker) and beat Rockhurst Prep (KC). I just got a pic text of Ryan standing in front of the White House and another one of the team dressed in their go to church Sunday best looking like they could all be working there one day. It looked like a beautiful day in the hood. Tonight they have a mass and dinner at Gonzaga Prep (who they will play tomorrow and then head back home). Tom's cousin Jimmy Lee met them at the game and got to see Ryan play @ 5 min. of the Rockhurst game in which he saved two and one slipped by him. Jim has been our go to guy for info on whether the docs are up to snuff in what they're doing since he is Dean at George Washington U. hospital. Nice having someone "in the know," that can double check everything. His colleagues have agreed with all Steven's treatment, so that's comforting.
Steve's been busy with friends stopping by and just hanging out. Thanks for keeping him company since I'm sure he misses Jenny. Conversation is still minimal, but he's a fast writer. Jean

Tournament update:

Loyola: 7 Brophy: 9

Georgetown Prep: 7 Brophy: 5 (Tied in te fourth quarter and almost pulled off the upset.)

Rockhurst: 7 Brophy: 11

Gonzaga College High School: 10 Brophy: 7

All f these teams were very good and conducted themselves in a proper Jesuit manner. The Broncos currently sit ranked at 4 in the Westerns States, and honorale mention top 25 in the nation.

if you add in the proper 3 goals for homefield advantage then you were undefeated with one tie
