Not in a particular order but this is what I am going to eat for dinner during the first two weeks I can (all homemade):
- greek style macaroni and cheese
- dolmades
- spanakopita
- chili
- green chili
- lesco (hungarian dish)
- lasagna
- chicken pot pie
- hamburger with swiss cheese portabello mushrooms and grilled onions
- greek style pork chops
- my own macaroni and cheese
- my own enchiladas
- flank steak
- calzones: whoever is around we will all make our own kinds
When I go to other cities after this is all over and want to eat out:
Phoenix: Los Dos Molinos, Phoenix City Grille
Seattle: Dick's, Piecora's, Yoshinos, Duke's Chowder House
Eugene: Burrito Boy
Hartford: Trumbull Kitchen, but really anything my Aunt Connie cooks is best
Malad: Drive-in

Entrees that I can make well are pretty limited to pasta dishes and turkey tacos, but if you need any desserts - I'm all over it!
I'd move that lasagna up a bit on the list. At this moment I have about four bites left of Annabelle's lasagna (sorry Tom), and it is perrrIty good, even five days old. Your grad student peers are jealous of the smell...and again, today, many of them asked me to send get well wishes.

Taking into account the historical rivalry between Hungarians and Romanians I am offended you scored with my neighbors:-) Oh well. I guess I need to somehow convince you of Dracula's land culinary excellence. Too bad my mom is not here to compete for Steve's best food list. If I try something I will surely end up on the bottom of your all time preferences.
Just the thought of you staying in line at Dick's in Seattle makes me smile. Go Steve!
You left off homemade blueberry and dutch apple pie. Your favorite. Anything you want. You know your grandma and Aunts Mary & Lynn are already planning their menus. I personally can't wait to share a meal with you where you are not just sitting at the table watching us eat. I want to sit out on El Chorro Lodge's patio and feed you sticky buns.

My kind of blog. I'll be thinking of lots foods and joints to eat it in (sort of a passion of mine). I was surprised by the omission of Elliott's Oyster House on the pier in Seattle. Remember the complimentary crab cakes? We've already talked about hitting Red Devil in May when the new Indiana Jones movie comes out. Can't wait for both.
Since you started your treatment, Mary and I have talked a lot about her radiation and chemo and we've remembered some of the similar effects and side effects. Not a pleasant time, but one that is closer to the end than to the beginning now. As so many people keep saying, stay strong. Love you, Steven. Greg

Those all sound like good things to eat but, what you really need is some delicious "Mexican" food from the Taco Bus in Seattle. With any luck, the franchise will move to your area sometime soon. Hope things are getting better.
This is Pat writing from Ellen's blog. I wanted to add to the calzone talk. I worked at NiMarco's Pizza up in Flagstaff for three years and made some pretty good strombolis. I asked my boss what the difference is between stroms and calzones, and he said that calzones have the cheese and other ingredients inside with marinara on the side for dipping, whereas stroms have the marinara inside, infused with the cheese, veggies, and meats. Strombolis are a bit messy, but worth the cleanup. Let me know if you want some made for ya. Peace.
I second Pat's comments on NiMarco's calzones/stromboli's....they are preettty, preeettty, preetty, good :) (You watch Curb Your Enthusiasm, right?) But, my dad's are pretty good too... as are the one's you mentioned I am sure...you might have to choose based on proximity for now.
I might add chips and guac., fresh granola and blueberries, and Naked juice to that list. Oh, and some heaps of feta to go with those Dolmades!
I can't wait till you can enjoy this food and we can be celebrating in true Manos style...drinks and grub.

And, I now know of 3 different taco trucks in Seattle (White Center which is where the real food is, not the fake yuppie version of Seattle proper Taco truck) that have meals for under $4.00.

I'm just going upstairs to get my pj's on. The King boys and Mary Beth were over tonight for dolmades sin mint. They talked about how they can't wait for all of us to be in SD. I tried to confirm the rumor that Wacky and Edward are already praticing, but the Wackman was wearing a poker face.
Mary Beth said that Danny still can't do the breathing exercises, but next week they learn how to change diapers....I'm just sure that Stanley will exel in that area.
If you, Jen and Tiny get bored, you can always send some girls names to Stanley and Mary Beth.

Lindz' post about Mission Beach fare (Sara's/Gabbiano's) is missing one aspect, which is perhaps the greatest food item I've ever seen a man put down (that man was you, of course): the peanut butter and bacon burger from the bolweivel (sp?).
Another thought: if you time this cancer thing just right, you may be able to put yourself in position to announce your comeback at a repeat of our Thanksgiving showdown from Lynn and David's from a few years ago. Two caveat's for you, though: (1) I will show no mercy regardless of any drama that such a return will generate and (2) you won't get me to fall for the "beer rule" that you pulled out of your ass (sorry Anabelle) last time.

Steven, now you’re talking something that I can relate to with this thing of “what you’ll eat when . . .” Don’t know if you knew or remember that a few years ago I compiled a cookbook of family recipes from your Mom’s side of the family (The Collins Clan Cooks). I had asked that family submit recipes that were family favorites . . . or things that your family requested over and over again. I distinctly remember your Mom submitting the recipe for Dolmades . . . I didn’t have a clue what they were at the time. But obviously your Mom complied with the request that they be “family favorites.” And if the comments to this particular blog entry mushroom (no pun intended) into something as big as your “music” blog entry . . . maybe the Manos family would want to consider doing a cookbook. Sounds like there are plenty of good cooks in your family!
Regardless, it sounds like there will be a “gastronomic extravaganza” to celebrate your well-being in the not to distant future!!
Steven, I check your blog on a daily basis and sometimes several times a day. It’s hard to know what to say because I think the huge array of family and friends have all said it in one way or another. I’m in awe of your strength and courage! I, quite frankly, don’t see any other outcome for your journey other than a FULL AND COMPLETE RECOVERY from this dreaded cancer!

I am having a cup of coffee and then I am headed to work. When the King boys and Mary Beth were over the other night, I asked them if what I post is too religious-or if they are tired of M.T. stories. Everyone kind of looked around the dinner table (we were having dolmades sin mint) and mumbled that they don't read my entries much. I don't want to bore you to death with M.T. but without my faith, I would not be the person I am today...not sure that I would have made it through some rough times.
It's the only gift I can give you right now. Once your eating, I will be cooking with Moochie-making sure you get enough of your favorite dinners. But for now, my faith is the only thing (other than my love) that I can share with you.
I'll take a breather for today, and perhaps tomorrow share some more of M.T.
When I asked the boys, I kind of got the same look and mood that they shared with me about 10 years ago. As we were driving home from the beach, I think Wacky was still crying and Danny and Billy were a bit less sentimental, but I could tell we were all sad about our vacation coming to an end.
So, as I always did, when we went somewhere special, I asked them what they like best about that particular vacation and what they like least. I'm sure their answers would be close to your answers on what they liked best. But when we got to the question of what they liked least, Billy and Danny looked at each other and one of them, I don't remember for sure, but I think it was Billy, said that he thought it was time for me to quit wearing a two piece bathing suit on the beach. I had to bite my lips (oh sorry)so I wouldn't laugh.
Anyway, I'm regressing.....I hope you enjoy the weekend with Mudge and Jenny. Mooch made some food to send up for your Mom and Jenny.

I can team up with you for mamaliga, in case you wanna share the risk:-) If we screw up I guess it's only Seth who knows how it is supposed to taste. After reading your post yesterday I rushed to the store, bought the stuff and made it. I did not have it in a year or so, thanks for the idea.
Since I am not a cook expert and this part of the blog is about food I suggest Beyond Bread in Tucson for tasty sandwiches, bread and dessert.

If you are on your computer with noyhing to explore, check out a couple of female singers from across the pond, one Brit and one Scot. Their names are Adele (yees another one name singer) and Amy MacDonald. I heard them on NPR and checked out some stuff on YouTube. They are really good. Of course, they are too good for iTunes so I must search elsewhere for their music.

Hi from Denver. Uncle Dan and I should be back in St. Louis Monday night. I found some time to read your blog. It sounds like you have some excellent cooks among your family and friends. I know your Mom always surpassed me in the area of flavorful dishes. I always looked forward to "her turn to cook" when the Collins sisters and their families would gather together for a cool summer Minnesota vacation. I hope you all share some of the recipes. For instance, what is the difference between regular macaroni and cheese and Greek style? That was at the top of your list, must be good. Maybe you can explain some of these dishes in one of your blogs...hope you get to try one SOON. I love you and will keep those prayers coming and graces from the most excellent food of all...the Eucharist. (I read St. Catherine of Sienna lived on the host alone for many years.
